Today's Earthquake in Delhi NCR

 Today ( October 3, 2023), a significant earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 struck Nepal at a depth of 5 kilometers. The tremors were felt not only in Nepal but also in parts of India, including the capital, New Delhi, and its surrounding regions. People quickly evacuated buildings in New Delhi, although there were no immediate reports of damage in either India or Nepal.


The earthquake's epicenter was pinpointed at 29.39 degrees north latitude and 81.23 degrees east longitude in Nepal, as confirmed by the National Centre for Seismology.


Additionally, the German Research Centre for Geosciences, GFZ, reported a magnitude 5.6 earthquake in the Nepal region.


As a result of the strong tremors, people in various parts of northern India, including Dehradun, also evacuated their buildings.


The National Centre for Seismology recorded the earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter Scale in Nepal at 2:51 pm on that day.

Furthermore, another earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 struck western parts of Nepal, as reported by the country's National Seismological Centre, although no casualties or property damage were reported. The earthquake had its epicenter in the Talkot area of Bajhang district, 700 kilometers west of Kathmandu, at 2:40 p.m., and its effects were felt in the Bhajang district and neighboring areas of India.


In a short span of less than half an hour, two earthquakes occurred in Nepal, measuring 6.2 and 4.6 on the Richter Scale, with tremors felt in significant parts of India, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The first earthquake happened at 14:25:52 IST, followed by the second at 14:51:04 IST.


The first earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.6, had a depth of 10 kilometers, while the second, with a magnitude of 6.2, had a depth of 5 kilometers.


Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and others also evacuated buildings in northern India due to the strong tremors.
