In addition to the famous Bengal tigers, the region is home to saltwater crocodiles and numerous species of birds. Until recently, people in this remote area had little interaction with any formidable creatures apart from these.

Upendra Nagor, a resident of  the Sundarbans, had set his fishing net on Monday afternoon. When he went to retrieve it in the evening, he was surprised to find a gigantic snake ensnared in it.

Frightened, he shouted for help, which brought other villagers rushing to the scene. They were astonished to see the massive snake tangled in the net. The appearance of a python in this area sent shockwaves through the community.

News of the python sighting quickly spread, and during the night, a large crowd gathered in the hope of catching a glimpse of the snake. Excitement and anxiety swept through the entire area.

The news was reported to the local forest department office that night. Forest workers and officials arrived in the village early the next morning to rescue the python.

The rescued python is a Burmese python. Forest officials have confirmed this. Normally, Burmese pythons are not seen in the Sundarbans. Forest workers speculate that this formidable snake may have come from the jungles of Bangladesh to the Sundarbans region in West Bengal.
