Roam the Andamans in Comfort: Introducing the Caravan Tourism Policy!

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are gearing up to launch an exciting and innovative tourism offering – a premium caravan service that promises travelers a luxurious and adventurous experience amidst stunning landscapes. This initiative will allow tourists visiting these picturesque islands to avail themselves of the opportunity to rent state-of-the-art, air-conditioned caravans that are equipped with an array of lavish amenities.

The caravans are designed to provide utmost comfort and convenience to travelers. They will feature plush bunk beds, a well-appointed lounge area adorned with mood lighting, comfortable recliners, foldable tables and chairs, a modern and stylish kitchenette, and even a bathroom. Moreover, to ensure the safety of tourists, each caravan will be equipped with a 360-degree security camera and GPS navigation system.

The plan is to strategically position these luxury caravans in various exotic locations throughout the archipelago. The Directorate of Information, Publicity, and Tourism (IP&T) will identify enchanting spots close to the beaches, within lush jungles, and atop picturesque hills. Travelers who opt to rent these caravans will be able to park them at these locations and immerse themselves in a unique blend of adventure and comfort.

Each of these selected locations will be equipped with essential facilities such as water connections, electric power supply, outdoor barbecue setups, and beautifully maintained lawns. Additionally, a dedicated caretaker-cum-guide will be on hand to assist travelers with their needs and to enhance their overall experience. Travelers will have the opportunity to stay at these locations for a few days, depending on their chosen package. They can cook their meals, enjoy the surroundings, and truly make the most of their vacation.

In an effort to further enrich the experience, the authorities are contemplating the possibility of allowing tourists to move from one location to another, depending on the availability of spaces at the designated exotic sites. This means that travelers can embark on a journey within the caravan, exploring various parts of the island and enjoying the freedom of movement that this unique mode of accommodation offers.

This venture is being heralded as an innovative approach to tourism, particularly as it caters to segments of the market that may not have been served effectively before. Caravans provide an avenue for family-oriented tours, even in areas where traditional hotel accommodations are lacking. The establishment of caravan parks in select locations aligns with the broader goals of promoting eco-tourism, adventure tourism, rural exploration, and beach getaways. By maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and sustainability, caravan tourism is expected to meet the rising demand for diverse travel experiences while preserving the natural beauty and ecological balance of the islands.

Dr. Jatinder Sohal, Director of the Tourism Department in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, highlighted the broad appeal of caravan tourism. He pointed out that it caters to a wide spectrum of travelers, including young people, families, senior citizens, and international tourists. The primary objective of this initiative is to stimulate tourism in the region while prioritizing the comfort and satisfaction of tourists, all the while ensuring that the islands' delicate ecosystem remains unharmed.

To ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach, the authorities have opened the doors for public participation. Interested individuals, tourism stakeholders, and government departments have been invited to share their thoughts, suggestions, and insights on the proposed policy. A dedicated window of 30 days, from August 12 to September 12, 2023, has been provided for interested parties to contribute their valuable inputs.
